Biography

Linda

An award-winning graphic designer, Linda moved from Michigan to Natchitoches, Louisiana in 2007. A summa-cum-laude graduate of Michigan State University with a BA in graphic design and advertising, she has been involved with art all of her life. She has exhibited her fine art in many galleries, exhibitions and competitions, winning numerous awards. She has works in private collections across the U.S., and in the Detroit Institute of Arts Slide Bank. Her various art activities have encompassed many roles, including teacher, workshop instructor, critique leader, juror, and president of the Mid-Michigan Art Guild.

Reflecting her versatility as an artist, she is proficient in a wide variety of media; watercolor, acrylic, oil, graphite, charcoal, pastel, handmade paper, pen & ink, and printmaking to name a few. Regardless of the medium or subject matter, her work is always bold in design and color.

“I love working from life, whether I’m doing a realistic representation or an abstract expression. I’m always interested in composition, color and contrast. But most important, I believe no matter what the artist may have been trying to convey, the viewer’s response is a critical part of the equation. For that reason, I’ve always avoided an overly involved Artist’s Statement. For the most part, I think a work of art has to stand on its own. The artist may have had a specific intention in mind, but that may or may not be what a viewer perceives. Any particular work of art may speak to each viewer in a different way, due to the experience and sensibility each person brings to the encounter. Whatever the viewer’s reaction, it is a true and valid interpretation and experience for that person, and isn’t that really what art is all about?”

Here is a sampling of my current works in pastel. Some were created en plein air. All are done in a fairly realistic style, and are small in size -- none are larger than 9 x 12.
