MaryBiography

I was inspired to be a gardener by my grandmother. Throughout my childhood, she always let me pick all the flowers I wanted when I went to visit. Helping her tend her garden gave me a sense of connection with the earth. The painting, My Grandmother’s Garden, is a tribute to that memory.

It was many years later, in my forties, that I actually became a gardener. It was growing flowers that inspired me to become a painter. I, like Monet, “owe becoming a painter to flowers."

Becoming overwhelmed with their incredible beauty, I first started photographing them, and that created the desire to paint that fleeting beauty. From the moment they begin to bud until they wither on the stem, each stage is a work of art in nature. Nature has been my inspiration and constant source of joy ever since. Flowers always make me happy!

My botanicals are traditional in subject matter but contemporary in color and style. I love the bright, clean crisp look of flowers on a pure white background. Flowers have inherent sensual qualities of beauty, color and form. I try to maintain their botanical integrity while still expressing a personal and unique style.
